Shock Arrest: Mouride Khassida Singer Ass Dione Linked to Expanding Pape Cheikh Diallo Investigation

A Senegalese religious singer, Ass Dione, has been arrested as part of the expanding investigation into television presenter Pape Cheikh Diallo, according to multiple local media reports.

Dione was detained on March 28th by security forces in Keur Massar after investigators analysing mobile phones of previously arrested suspects reportedly identified him and traced his location.

He is described as a khassida singer, a performer of Islamic devotional poetry sung in praise of religious leaders within the Mouride brotherhood, including Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, the Khalif General of the Mouride brotherhood.

His arrest brings the number of people held in the case to more than fifty, with authorities also investigating alleged links between him and other suspects as the probe continues.
