Guinea Recalls 12 Ambassadors in Surprise Diplomatic Shake-Up

Guinea’s President Mamadi Doumbouya has unexpectedly ordered the immediate recall of 12 ambassadors from key diplomatic missions around the world, according to a presidential decree read on state television.

The sweeping move affects envoys stationed in France, the United States, China, Germany, Russia, Nigeria and Ghana, as well as Guinea’s representative to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), an organisation of French-speaking and Francophone states. The decree did not state the reason for the decision, leaving chargés d’affaires, diplomats who act as temporary heads of embassies, to oversee the missions until new appointments are made.
