10 Teenagers Arrested in Senegal Over Alleged Assault of 14-Year-Old Girl

Police in Sicap-Mbao, a suburb of Dakar, Senegal, have arrested 10 teenagers aged between 14 and 18 after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by a group of about 12 youths. Two suspects remain on the run.

The incident reportedly occurred during the night of March 5th to March 6th, shortly after the evening breaking of the Ramadan fast. The girl’s father, a teacher identified as Kane, began searching for her after she disappeared and was later informed around 1 a.m. that she had been seen with several boys inside a house in the neighbourhood.

When he forced his way into a second-floor apartment, he reportedly found his daughter being attacked by several teenagers and managed to detain two suspects, who were later handed over to police and helped identify others.

A medical examination later found semen in samples taken from the victim, while the girl told investigators she had been taken by force to the apartment and assaulted by multiple suspects. Some of the detained youths reportedly admitted having sexual relations with the girl but deny abducting her, claiming she went there voluntarily.

The Pikine Guédiawaye prosecutor has ordered all suspects placed in custody and they were expected to be brought before prosecutors today as the investigation continues.
