Former Guinea-Bissau President Embaló Announces October 4th Return After Nearly a Year Abroad

Published by: The Fatu Network

Former Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has announced he will return home on October 4th, nearly a year after he was ousted in a military takeover and left the country just before the results of a disputed presidential election were due to be announced.

Now living in Morocco, Embaló is calling for his return to be marked by “peace, harmony, tolerance, respect and fraternity,” while asking Guineans to avoid actions that could create tension or division.

His departure followed the November 26th, 2025 takeover that halted the electoral process, with opposition figures accusing Embaló himself of orchestrating the coup to stop the election result from being declared, an allegation he has denied.
