UDP Hits Back at Hamat Bah Over Farafenni Remarks, Accuses NPP of Using Ethnic Fear

Published by: The Fatu Network

The United Democratic Party has hit back at Lands and Religious Affairs Minister Hamat Bah over his controversial Farafenni remarks, accusing him and other NPP figures of using ethnic and nationality-based fear as the December election approaches.

Bah accused the UDP of disproportionately targeting Fula and Wolof voters through registration objections and warned supporters about what could happen under a UDP government.

The UDP also said he claimed that “foreigners from Lebanon” would never rule The Gambia and accused the party of “tribal cleansing.”

In response, the opposition said Gambians should instead be asking about jobs, electricity, healthcare, the cost of living and public spending.

“Different election year, same playbook,” the UDP said, accusing the government of using identity politics to divert attention from its record.
