IGP Touray Says Rape Remains One of the Most Reported Serious Crimes in 2025

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Seedy Mukhtar Touray, has reported a slight increase in rape cases in 2025 compared to 2024, despite broader progress in reducing crime.

Speaking to reporters, he said the latest figures on major offences present a mixed picture.

“46 rape cases were reported in 2024, increasing to 54 in 2025; murder cases decreased from 29 in 2024 to 21 in 2025; and burglary cases fell from 38 in 2024 to 34 in 2025,” he stated.

He added that robbery cases rose from 60 in 2024 to 63 in 2025, making it the second most reported major crime in the country.
