Senegal Adopts Law Increasing Penalties for Homosexuality

Senegal’s National Assembly has adopted a bill amending Article 319 of the country’s Penal Code, introducing penalties for promoting or financing homosexuality while increasing the maximum prison sentence for same-sex relations from five years to ten years. Approved on Wednesday, the legislation means Senegal remains among more than 30 African countries where homosexuality is punishable by imprisonment.
