Bojang Labels Kandeh a ‘Sell-Out’ as Opposition Rift Deepens

By Dawda Baldeh

National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Kebba Madi Bojang has accused Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) leader Mama Kandeh of abandoning his supporters for personal gain, following the opposition politician’s alignment with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

Speaking at a rally in Wassau on Saturday, Bojang described Kandeh as a “sell-out” politician and criticised his recent challenge to opposition figures to show what developmental achievements they had delivered to the country. Kandeh made the remarks in recent publications following his alignment with the NPP ahead of the December 2026 presidential election.

Addressing supporters, Bojang said the NDP had previously rejected alliance proposals from the GDC when, according to him, Kandeh was politically vulnerable.

“I reject GDC because I see no leadership qualities in Mamma Kandeh,” Bojang said. “Kandeh has betrayed his constituents by joining NPP for personal benefits.

“Your regional chairman in Brikama-Ba is now aligned with me. Don’t worry, the number of supporters I will draw from your party will leave you with nothing. I might even take votes from your own family.”

The NDP leader argued that many GDC supporters did not back the party’s alliance with the NPP, claiming that only a few remained with Kandeh while others were resigning.

Bojang, a former NPP national youth president, also dismissed comparisons between himself and the GDC leader.

“I know the party and the leader you are backing today better than you do. I have proof of my contributions to the country, and it will stand on its own. Even NPP recognises my capabilities,” he said. “I’m not going to waste my energy responding to you.

“You are there to help President Barrow fail. You never supported him; you are merely there to ensure his failure.”
Bojang further alleged that politicians such as Kandeh were driven by personal interests and would contribute to what he described as President Adama Barrow’s “significant failure”.
