The Young Scorpions’ dressing room erupted in celebration after The Gambia defeated Sierra Leone 2-0 in Sunday’s West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A semifinal in Mali, securing a place in Friday’s final against Guinea and qualification for the 2027 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Agibou Dibba and Francis Gomez scored the goals as Coach Abdoulie “Lie” Bojang guided another generation of Gambian youngsters to continental qualification, three years after leading the country to the 2023 Under-20 AFCON final and FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The victory also means both The Gambia’s Under-17 and Under-20 national teams have qualified for their respective African championships.
