Guinea Bissau Sets Cashew Price Floor to Protect Farmers from Underpayment

To protect farmers from being underpaid during the harvest season, Guinea Bissau’s government has set the base price for domestic cashew nuts at 410 CFA francs (about $0.73) per kilogram for producers in 2026. The decision was announced in a press release issued today following a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

By fixing a minimum farmgate price, authorities aim to stop middlemen and exporters from purchasing the crop at very low prices when supply is high, a situation that has often left farmers earning far less than the true value of their harvest. The measure is intended to guarantee producers a baseline income from cashew, the country’s most important cash crop.
