“We’ll Probably Run It”: Trump Declares US Will Become ‘Guardian’ of Strait of Hormuz

Published by: The Fatu Network

As Iran tightens its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump has declared that Washington will “keep” and “probably run” the strategic waterway, become its “guardian” and demand reimbursement of 20 percent on cargo passing through it.

“We’re going to keep the strait and we’ll probably run it,” Trump said, insisting the United States “should be reimbursed” for providing security.

Iran has rejected Washington’s attempt to assert control, with senior officials vowing not to retreat from Tehran’s position and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps condemning US interference in the vital shipping route.

Trump’s announcement remains a declaration rather than an actual takeover, as Iran continues to hold military and strategic leverage over the waterway, where shipping traffic has fallen sharply and Tehran’s actions have disrupted global energy markets.
