A Gambian mathematics teacher and satellite and CCTV technician is encouraging young people to embrace education, technical skills, and lifelong learning, saying success comes through discipline, hard work, and a commitment to continuous self-improvement.
Speaking in an interview with The Fatu Network, Yorro Gagigo, 33, said his passion for mathematics and technology has enabled him to make a meaningful contribution to both education and community security.
“Teaching allows me to shape young minds, while working in technology lets me solve practical problems and stay up to date with new innovations,” Gagigo said.
Born and raised in The Gambia, Gagigo teaches mathematics while also providing professional installation and maintenance services for satellite systems, CCTV cameras, and video doorbell cameras for homes, schools, and businesses.
He said one of the biggest challenges students face is the belief that mathematics is too difficult, which often affects their confidence and performance.
“I break complex topics into simple, manageable steps, encourage students to ask questions, and celebrate every improvement because confidence is just as important as teaching formulas,” he explained.
Beyond the classroom, Gagigo said modern security technology plays a vital role in protecting lives and property. He noted that CCTV and video doorbell cameras help deter crime, monitor premises, and provide peace of mind for homeowners and business operators.
He added that staying up to date with technological advancements through training, technical manuals, and practical experience enables him to deliver quality services.
Offering advice to young Gambians, Gagigo urged them to remain disciplined and committed to learning.
“Believe in yourself, work hard, and never stop improving your skills. Every experience helps you grow, and by serving your community with honesty and professionalism, you can contribute meaningfully to the development of The Gambia,” he said.
