Black Dragon emerged champions of the Hon. Alieu Baldeh-Sponsored Jarra West Junior Football League over the weekend on Sunday, 12th July, after defeating New Town in a dramatic penalty shootout following a closely contested final.

The tournament featured 20 teams from across Jarra West, showcasing local talent while promoting unity among communities throughout the constituency.

After the final ended level at the end of regulation time, Black Dragon held their nerve from the penalty spot to secure the title, while New Town finished as runners-up.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hon. Alieu Baldeh said he was pleased with the success of the tournament, saying it achieved its goal of promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion among young people and communities in Jarra West.

“This tournament has been a great success. It ended peacefully and brought our communities together through the spirit of football,” he said.

Hon. Alieu Baldeh sponsored the tournament at a cost of D50,000 as part of his support for youth development and grassroots football in the constituency.

The final attracted football fans, community leaders, and several National Assembly Members, who turned out to witness the conclusion of the competition and support grassroots football initiatives.

Residents praised the successful staging of the tournament, with many expressing hope it will become an annual event to continue developing young football talent and strengthening unity across Jarra West.

Black Dragon’s victory marked the culmination of a tournament that celebrated sportsmanship, community spirit, and the unifying power of football.
