Senegal Parliament Passes Asset Declaration Reform in Major Win for Sonko

Senegal’s parliament has passed a new constitutional amendment requiring the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the National Assembly to publicly declare their assets when they take office and when they leave.

The measure was approved on Monday by an overwhelming 133 votes to 2, reflecting PASTEF’s commanding majority in parliament.

The vote is a political win for National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko and his PASTEF majority. It comes just over a month after a broader constitutional reform was struck down by the Constitutional Council over the procedure used to adopt it.

The new, narrower amendment revives part of that reform agenda, this time with overwhelming parliamentary backing.
