Pape Cheikh Diallo Remains in Prison as Case Heads to Trial

Senegalese TV presenter Pape Cheikh Diallo will remain in prison after a judge rejected his request for provisional release, as the major case over alleged same-sex “acts against nature” moves towards trial.

Diallo, who has been in detention since February, is among those ordered to stand trial on charges of “acts against nature” and criminal association.

The investigation has led to more than 100 arrests, including numerous public figures, although some of those investigated have since had their cases dismissed for insufficient evidence or because the legal time limit for prosecution had expired.

The prosecutor has appealed the judge’s decision concerning the cases that were dismissed.
