Official Statement Regarding Criminal Incident at the Port of Banjul

Alport Banjul Limited hereby confirms that a criminal incident took place at the Port of Banjul on 23 March 2026. The incident involved the fraudulent release of three shipping containers and the unauthorised removal of twelve vehicles and one motorcycle from port premises.

Upon discovery of the incident by the Tariff and Operations Departments, Alport Security initiated an immediate internal investigation. Upon conclusion of that investigation, a comprehensive report — together with all supporting exhibits and evidentiary materials — was formally submitted to the Seaport Police Unit, which has since assumed primary responsibility for the criminal investigation. The State Intelligence Services (SIS) is additionally involved in the matter. Alport Banjul Limited Security Department is cooperating fully and without reservation with all relevant law enforcement and intelligence authorities.

As a precautionary and procedural measure, individuals identified during the course of the internal investigation as suspected of involvement have been suspended from duty with immediate effect, as per Service Rules, pending the outcome of the police investigation. Alport Banjul Limited will not take any action that could prejudice the investigative process and remains committed to ensuring that law enforcement is able to conduct its work without interference or obstruction of any kind.

NOTICE TO ALL EMPLOYEES

All employees are expected to cooperate fully with investigators as and when required, and to refrain from any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the investigative process. Upon conclusion of the investigation, Alport Banjul Limited will pursue all necessary disciplinary and legal action against any individual found to have played a role in this incident. Employees currently suspended from duty will remain off duty until the police investigation is formally concluded.

Any events of such nature in the future will be treated in the same manner without tolerance. 

The referral of this matter to the Seaport Police Unit and the State Intelligence Services reflects the gravity with which Alport Banjul Limited regards any breach of the security and operational integrity of its facilities. The company is committed to pursuing full accountability through every lawful means available for the nation and the country.
