The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Dakar has expressed appreciation to Mamma Kandeh, Secretary General and Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), for his message of sympathy following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In an official letter dated March 16th 2026, Iran’s Ambassador to Senegal, Hasan Asgari, acknowledged Kandeh’s gesture of condolence and solidarity during a period of national mourning. “I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your kind message of sympathy and solidarity,” Asgari wrote, stressing the importance of such support in difficult times.
The ambassador said the message reflected “the spirit of friendship, mutual respect, and understanding” between the people of Iran and The Gambia, adding that such expressions of solidarity provide comfort to the Iranian nation as it honours the legacy of its late leader. “As we honour the legacy of our late leader, we continue our commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation among nations,” he added.
The embassy also extended its appreciation to the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) and the people of The Gambia for their compassionate words, pointing to enduring diplomatic ties and shared values between both nations.
