Senegalese music legend Youssou N’Dour has credited The Gambia and its people with playing an important role in his musical career. Speaking exclusively to The Fatu Network following Saturday’s Grand Bal concert at Bercy in Paris, he said, “I cannot thank Gambians enough. The Gambia will always be part of me.”
He went further, tracing his bond with The Gambia to the early days of his musical career. “You cannot talk about Youssou N’Dour without talking about The Gambia,” he said.
He thanked Gambian fans who travelled from around the world, including Europe, the United States and Africa, to attend the concert, noting that he was particularly touched by their willingness to travel to a French-speaking country to see him perform, even though many do not speak French.
Youssou also visited the hotels where Gambian fans were staying to thank them personally, meeting several supporters who were still there after the concert.
