The leader of the Gambia Action Party (GAP), Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly, has challenged President Adama Barrow to account for his government’s promises, achievements and shortcomings, arguing that many Gambians are grappling with rising living costs and economic hardship.
In a statement on Sunday, Batchilly called on the president to provide what he described as clear and honest answers to citizens facing increasing food prices, low wages and a growing cost of living.
His remarks come as President Barrow continues his nationwide Meet the People Tour, which Batchilly said has seen political disputes overshadow the concerns of ordinary Gambians.
“President Barrow cannot expect the people to remain satisfied with promises when they are struggling to afford the basic necessities of life,” Batchilly said.
The GAP leader said Gambians deserved more than political speeches, exchanges and announcements of development projects, and called for measurable outcomes and accountability.
“The people deserve more than speeches, political exchanges and development announcements. They deserve verifiable results, clear timelines and accountability for every major promise made in their name,” he said.
Batchilly also claimed that the president was being misled by those around him and warned against ignoring the concerns of ordinary citizens.
Addressing President Barrow directly, he said: “My Big Brother and also the Gambian President, 85% of your people are misleading you, and I believe you have realised it now but are afraid to speak.”
He concluded his message with the phrase: “C’est fini, bi idhnillah.”
The Gambia Action Party reiterated its commitment to its slogan, “Mass Development Through Mass Action”, and called for greater accountability and responsiveness to the needs of Gambians.
