Gambian para-athlete Ebrima Jallow finished among the top 20 competitors in the 5-kilometre race at the Kilimanjaro Marathon in Tanzania, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, in a field of more than 200 participants.
Jallow, recognised as The Gambia’s first blade runner, an amputee athlete who runs using a prosthetic running blade, competed against athletes from across the region and beyond. The result marks a personal milestone and reflects the growing participation of athletes with disabilities in international events.
Speaking after the race, he described the experience as challenging and rewarding, attributing his progress to faith, resilience, and support from Gambians at home and abroad. “This journey has not been easy, but with determination, faith, and your support, I continue to push beyond limits,” he said, adding that he remains grateful for the support he has received. He also acknowledged the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare and the Gambia Disability Council for their support.
