Court Remands Buba Jallow Over Alleged Murder of Electrician Ebou Njie

The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has remanded Buba Jallow at Mile 2 Central Prison after he was charged with the alleged murder of auto electrician Ebou Njie in Latrikunda German.

Jallow is accused of fatally stabbing Njie last week before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested by officers of the Gambia Police Force. Investigators also recovered the alleged murder weapon after tracing it to a friend of the accused, who allegedly received it from Jallow following the incident.

When Jallow appeared before Magistrate F.J. Camara, Chief Inspector Bojang and ASP S. Bah, representing the Inspector General of Police, applied for the case to be transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court.

Chief Inspector Bojang relied on Section 72 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2025, arguing that murder is a capital offence punishable by life imprisonment upon conviction and therefore falls outside the jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court. He also applied, under Section 228 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025, for Jallow to be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending trial.

In her ruling, Magistrate Camara agreed that the murder charge placed the matter beyond her court’s jurisdiction. She ordered that the case be transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court and directed that Jallow remain in custody at Mile 2 Central Prison pending trial.

According to the charge sheet, Jallow faces one count of murder. Prosecutors allege that on June 29, 2026, at Latrikunda German in the Kanifing Municipality, he stabbed Ebou Njie in the mid-upper back with a knife, causing his death.

The case has now been transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court.
