Eighteen months after the August 20th 2024 double murder of Aziz Dabala and Wally Gano in Pikine, near Dakar, the high-profile investigation has entered a decisive phase.
An investigating judge has ordered DNA tests on seven suspects, including Senegalese dancer Nabou Lèye, who performed with major artists like Youssou Ndour and Wally Seck. Authorities are also targeting alleged ringleader Modou Lô as they attempt to cut through what has been described as a case “long mired in contradictory statements.”
The suspects were transferred under heavy security from Rebeuss prison in Dakar to the Division of Criminal Investigations (DIC), where genetic samples were collected.
The case now hinges on forensic analysis to establish “matches between the suspects’ genes and biological traces found on the bodies”, determine each individual’s role, and potentially break what investigators believe is a “pact of silence”.
The tests are also expected to shed light on unresolved questions around motive, including unconfirmed claims of controversial intimate practices linked to the killings.
