Senegal has officially named former France and Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira as the new head coach of the national team, ending weeks of speculation over who will take charge of the Teranga Lions.
The Senegalese Football Federation said its Emergency Committee unanimously approved Vieira’s appointment, describing it as a “strategic choice” and “a new step” towards building “a high-level technical structure” that matches the country’s sporting ambitions.
The federation said administrative and contractual discussions are still ongoing. Vieira’s official presentation and further details of his appointment will be announced later.
The Dakar-born 1998 World Cup winner replaces Pape Thiaw, who was dismissed following Senegal’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup.
