Ousmane Sonko has warned that Senegal risks repeating “the mistakes of the past” under its new $2.2 billion agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), demanding “absolute transparency” over the country’s commitments.
The National Assembly president wants the government to publish the document setting out measures on debt, public spending, social protection and state-owned companies, or submit it to Parliament for scrutiny.
Sonko, who says he took part in months of discussions with the IMF, warned that some of the proposed measures “only reproduce the mistakes of the past.”
