The National Campaign Manager of the United Democratic Movement for Change (UMC), Cllr MC Cham Jr, has accused Momodou Sabally of showing signs of “political panic” following the recent UNITE rally led by Talib Ahmed Bensouda at the Buffer Zone.
In a statement, Cham said the large turnout at the rally reflected what he described as growing public support for Mayor Bensouda and the UMC movement ahead of the 2026 elections.
“Momodou Sabally has spoken again, but this time his words reveal more panic than conviction,” Cham stated. “The Buffer Zone rally was not just a political gathering, it was a clear signal that Gambians are ready for change.”
Cham argued that Sabally’s criticism of Bensouda was driven by concern over the rising popularity of the UMC. According to him, the movement has gained national attention because of its message, structure, and appeal among young people.
“He is attacking Talib not because Talib is finished, but because Talib has arrived,” Cham said.
The UMC campaign manager also dismissed claims that Bensouda caused divisions within the United Democratic Party (UDP), insisting that the mayor represents a new generation seeking political renewal.
“No propaganda or insults will stop a determined population from demanding change,” Cham added, while maintaining that Gambians would make their decision democratically on December 5th.
