Family seeks justice as Ba Musa Sabally to be buried after alleged mob killing in Brikama

The family of Ba Musa Sabally is demanding justice as his remains are returned home for burial following his alleged killing late on Wednesday, his relatives told The Fatu Network.

“My son was intentionally killed based on false accusations,” said his father, Alhasan Sabally. “I am heartbroken. Seeing my son in that condition shatters me.” Sabally rejected claims his son was a thief, saying: “Ba Musa is not a thief. He purchased a phone from someone, which unfortunately turned out to be stolen. When the supposed owner confronted him, he asked them to wait until he could retrieve his money from the seller.”

Relatives said the family will not forgive those responsible and are relying on the justice system to act. They noted that Ba Musa’s elder brother, Seedy Sabally, died three years ago in what the family described as an accident, but stressed this latest incident was deliberate.

An uncle, Mustapha Ceesay, criticised media coverage that labelled the victim a thief, saying he was “outraged by the false and misleading narratives circulated by many media outlets. Ba Musa is not a thief.” He added: “It’s important to verify facts before reporting,” and warned: “The manner in which my nephew was killed is heartbreaking, and we will not rest until justice is achieved.”

Ba Musa’s sister, Jainaba Bojang, wept as she urged police to conduct a thorough investigation and said the family remained hopeful authorities would quickly apprehend suspects. Their father described his son as a hardworking mason, a devoted Muslim, and a quiet, non‑violent young man who supported his family.

Ba Musa is due to be buried in Brikama on Sunday, 14 June, at 5:00 p.m., the family said.
