Barrow Tells Gambians in Saudi Arabia to Consider Returning Home

President Adama Barrow has called on Gambians living in Saudi Arabia to consider returning home, telling members of the diaspora that The Gambia now offers growing opportunities in education and development.

Speaking during a meeting with the Gambian community in Jeddah, Barrow also addressed concerns over passports and the permits required to perform Hajj, assuring attendees that their concerns “have been noted.” He pointed to government initiatives including the establishment of universities, the creation of trust funds to help students pay tuition, and an increase in the school feeding programme from D30 million to D250 million.

“He urged the Gambian community to stay united and consider returning home to contribute to national development,” the State House said in a statement.

The engagement came days after President Barrow travelled to the Kingdom to perform Umrah in Makkah alongside members of the presidential delegation. According to an earlier State House statement, the President offered prayers for “peace, unity, and prosperity for The Gambia, and for ‘barakah’, strength, and acceptance for the entire Muslim Ummah” before continuing his visit to Jeddah for meetings with the Gambian community and other engagements.
