After spending one year at Mile 2 Central Prison on remand, Fatoumatta Suwaneh, a thirty-two-year-old resident of Tujereng accused of killing her mother with a pestle, has pleaded not guilty before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the Banjul High Court. She stood in the dock in tears as the court recorded her plea.
When Justice Jaiteh read the murder charge and the particulars of the offence, which were translated into Mandinka for the accused, she responded: “I am not aware of that,” indicating that she does not remember the alleged incident.
Suwaneh is charged with one count of murder. According to the particulars of the offence, she is accused of causing the death of Binta Bojang on October 27th 2024 in Tujereng Village, Kombo South, by hitting her on the head with a pestle. The matter was adjourned to March 24th for the first prosecution witness to testify.
