100,000 Dalasi Tobaski Rams Shock Gambians

Published by: The Fatu Network

From average Tobaski ram prices now starting around D18,000 to rams nearing the D100,000 mark, costs are soaring across The Gambia as inflation, transport costs and the weakening dalasi continue squeezing households already battling a brutal cost-of-living crisis.

Sellers say imported feed costs, rising CFA exchange rates and regional instability have pushed prices sharply higher this year.

For many Gambian families, the cost of some Tobaski rams is equivalent to several months of income, turning a traditional religious purchase into a luxury purchase only a few can comfortably afford.
