Gambian graduate launches exam-prep app for students

By Michaella Faith Wrights

A young computer science graduate from Basse Santa Su has launched a mobile application designed to help Gambian students prepare for exams, particularly the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Mudasiru Jallow, a graduate of SRM University in Andhra Pradesh, India, introduced WAEC Wizard, an offline educational app offering practical solutions to long-standing challenges in accessing study materials. The app provides over 3,500 multiple-choice questions, more than 400 theory questions, and a built-in scoring system—all accessible without internet.

Born and raised in the Upper River Region, Jallow began his education at Koba Kunda Lower Basic School before continuing at Nasir, where he consistently demonstrated leadership as head boy. His experiences highlighted the struggles of rural students in accessing quality resources, inspiring him to develop the app while studying abroad.

“The journey was not easy,” Jallow said. “The app faced multiple challenges, including several rejections by Google before it could be accepted on the Play Store.” Despite setbacks, he refined the application until its successful launch in April 2026.

With approval from the Ministry of Basic Education, WAEC Wizard is already making an impact among exam-bound students. Jallow hopes to expand the platform beyond The Gambia. “My goal is to see WAEC Wizard grow into a global learning tool that supports students across Africa and beyond,” he added.
