Bansang General Hospital has received a major boost after a Chinese medical team donated consumable medicines valued at almost one million dalasis, with officials confirming the supplies were presented by the 23rd batch of the China Medical Team serving in The Gambia.
The donation is expected to ease pressure on daily operations at the hospital, which serves as a key referral centre for the Central River Region and a large rural population in need of maternal care, emergency treatment, and general medicine.
The gesture is part of decades-long China–Gambia medical cooperation, which has continued since diplomatic ties were restored in 2016, with rotating Chinese teams providing clinical care, training, and regular medical donations to support the country’s healthcare system.
More details coming shortly.
