The Young Scorpions’ 2-1 victory over Guinea last night in Mali secured their place in the regional semifinals, marking another achievement for Coach Abdoulie “Lie” Bojang, who guided The Gambia to its first-ever Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations final in 2023 and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Argentina that same year.

A former Gambian international who also played for Steve Biko, Bojang later returned to the club as head coach and led them to the national league title in 2013. He also took the Young Scorpions to the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A final in 2022 and was named the best coach of the group stage at the 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Now, three years later, he’s back with another generation of Young Scorpions, unbeaten and through to the regional semifinals after topping their group with victories over hosts Mali and Guinea, alongside a draw against Liberia.
His latest mission is to secure another place at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, adding to a coaching career that has already produced some of Gambian youth football’s proudest moments.
