AL EBADAH ALKHAYRIAH Foundation Appeals for Support to Build Multi-Purpose Centre for Youth Empowerment and Quranic Education

By Alieu Jallow

The AL EBADAH ALKHAYRIAH Foundation has launched an urgent appeal to the public, government, private sector, and philanthropists for financial and material support to construct a multi-purpose vocational and educational complex aimed at empowering young Gambians through skills training, agriculture, and Quranic education.

In an exclusive interview with The Fatu Network, senior members announced plans to build a modern facility on a 300-by-300-square-meter plot of land in Darsilameh, located in the Foni region. The proposed centre will serve as a hub for Quranic memorization and provide practical instruction in agriculture and technical trades.

Equipping Youth with Marketable Skills

Spokesperson Sheriff Alhaiba Hydara stated that the project is designed to equip young people with practical expertise, instill Islamic values, and foster economic self-reliance to combat youth unemployment.

“We have secured a large plot of land in Foni Darsilameh which the foundation intends to develop into a school that will provide disciplined Quranic education alongside practical training in agriculture and vocational skills such as plumbing, carpentry, construction, and other trades. These are among the key priorities in our action plan,” he said.

President of the foundation, Sheriff Mafuz Hydara, explained that the vision is to establish a comprehensive, one-stop institution to guide youth away from social vices and prepare them for productive, self-sufficient lives.

Making a passionate public appeal to Gambians at home and abroad, as well as businesses and development partners, Sheriff Mafuz Hydara emphasized that contributions of any scale would help bring the project to fruition.

“Today we are appealing to everyone to support this dream. Whether it is a bag of cement, a trip of gravel, or any financial contribution from one dalasi to one million, every donation will help us move closer to completing this institution,” he said.

Four Years of Humanitarian Impact and Presidential Appeal

Over the past four years, the AL EBADAH ALKHAYRIAH Foundation has executed numerous community-focused humanitarian projects across The Gambia. Its track record includes drilling boreholes for clean drinking water in underserved rural communities, distributing food packages during Ramadan, delivering free eye health screenings, and facilitating peacebuilding and conflict resolution. While acknowledging existing backing from Gambian President Adama Barrow, the foundation called for further support to commence block-moulding and initial construction phases.

“His Excellency President Adama Barrow is a member of our organisation, and we appreciate his continued support. We regard him as one of the few African leaders who consistently support the Sheriffs. We are appealing to him to assist us with at least 300 bags of cement or more so we can begin moulding blocks for the project. We also call on individuals, companies, and private investors to partner with us in making this vision a reality,” Sheriff Mafuz Hydara stated.

The organization expressed confidence that once completed, the multi-purpose centre will stand as a lasting investment in youth development, combining religious instruction, trade skills, agriculture, and community service under one roof.
