GPA STRIKE BRINGS BANJUL PORT OPERATIONS TO A HALT

Written by: Dawda Baldeh

Port operations have effectively stopped at the Port of Banjul as employees of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) embark on a sit-down strike over unresolved welfare concerns.

The President of the Staff Welfare Association, Adama Jatta, said workers will not return to their duties until their demands are met. The demands form part of efforts to have responsibility for staff welfare matters transferred from Alport Banjul back to the Gambia Ports Authority.

According to the workers, both GPA and Alport Banjul have failed to comply with a directive issued by the Office of the President, prompting the industrial action.
