Gambia Moves to 9-Digit Mobile Numbers From Friday

The Gambia will begin switching to a new 9-digit mobile phone numbering system from Friday, September 4th, under a new directive from the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA).

Africell users will add 87 before their existing 7-digit numbers, QCell users will add 83, while Comium users will add 86. Gamcel numbers will remain unchanged at 7 digits for now.

The changes will also apply to mobile financial services such as Wave, with users required to include the new prefix linked to their mobile network.
