The Gambia Action Party (GAP) has raised alarm over possible electoral fraud after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) uncovered more than 2,000 cases of double voter registration during the ongoing supplementary exercise.
In a statement on Thursday, party leader Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly said GAP was closely monitoring the process nationwide. “We want to make it unequivocally clear that the integrity of the voter registration process must not be jeopardized under any circumstances,” he said.
Batchilly urged the government to ensure only genuine Gambian citizens are issued voter cards, warning: “The future of this nation must never be dictated by fraud, manipulation, or the illegal registration of non-citizens.”
He stressed that credible elections depend on credible registration. “If the foundation is tainted, the entire election process loses its legitimacy,” he said, calling on the IEC to act decisively, impartially and patriotically.
The party vowed to report any suspicious activity, adding: “GAP is saying No to electoral fraud. No to illegal registration, and yes to democracy and yes to the sovereign will of Gambians.”
