The community of Bakau is in mourning following the tragic drowning of Kebba Wada, owner of Al Furqan Institute, and four of his children. Al Furqan Institute is a bilingual Islamic school in Bakau that combines conventional education with Islamic studies and Quranic memorisation. The deceased have been identified as Khadijah, Muhammed, Mariam, and Sumayah. The family had reportedly gone to Cape Point Beach on Sunday evening for a picnic.

According to a source close to the family, the incident occurred while the children were swimming and began experiencing difficulties in the water. Kebba is said to have immediately rushed in to help them. Two of his sons were rescued, but he and four of his other children sadly drowned in the process. A teacher at the school expressed shock at the news, saying, “This is shocking, I can’t believe it.” One of the rescued children is currently in a coma and receiving medical attention.
