Burn Survivor Donates Burn Care Supplies to Young Patients

Written by: Dawda Baldeh

At just nine years old, Sira Kabba is proving that compassion has no age.

Seven years after surviving devastating burns that left her hospitalized at the age of two, Sira returned to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) Paediatric Surgical Burn Unit—not as a patient, but as a beacon of hope.

Through the Sira Burns Foundation, she donated much-needed burn care supplies to children receiving treatment for burn injuries as part of the second edition of her outreach initiative.

Sira’s gesture has touched many hearts. What makes her story even more remarkable is how she funded the donation.

Every year, she quietly saved her school lunch money to buy burn care supplies for young patients.

“I know what it feels like to be in pain and scared in the hospital,” Sira said. “I want other children with burns to know they are not alone and to help them get what they need to heal.”

Her commitment to the cause inspired her parents to help establish the Sira Burns Foundation, which is gradually gaining momentum.

Having experienced the physical and emotional challenges of severe burn injuries firsthand, Sira is determined to make life a little easier for children facing the same ordeal.

Her journey from burn survivor to young humanitarian is a powerful reminder that one person’s kindness, no matter how young, can make a real difference.

As her mission grows, Sira is calling on individuals, businesses, and organisations to support the Sira Burns Foundation so it can continue reaching more burn survivors and providing lifesaving supplies to patients across The Gambia.
