Jammeh Sets Out Vision as GFF Presidential Race Draws Closer

Former Gambian international and football administrator Colonel Musa “Falcons” Jammeh, who is contesting the presidency of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), has outlined his vision for the future of Gambian football ahead of the federation’s August elections.

Speaking in an interview with Eye Africa Television, Jammeh said he intends to build on the progress made under the current GFF leadership while addressing the game’s remaining challenges.

“I want to continue the good work that the current leadership has done. I have seen where we came from and how far we have gone,” he said.

“I played football during the Jawara and Jammeh eras, and I have watched our football evolve. I have been involved in football throughout my career.”

Jammeh said his ambition is to elevate Gambian football to the global stage by decentralising the sport and investing in infrastructure.

“I want to decentralise our football across the country and build infrastructure,” he said.

He also pledged to improve football administration, saying his experience would help drive further development.

“With my expertise in football administration, I will make a significant change in our football.”

Highlighting the country’s infrastructure needs, Jammeh said more football facilities are required to support the growing number of clubs.

“We only have one standard stadium, and we need more football fields to accommodate other clubs. We will do that, and the standard of our football will improve.”

He also outlined plans to strengthen grassroots football, improve players’ welfare, introduce stronger accountability measures, and create more opportunities for Gambian players abroad.

“We have talent in this country, and I want us to export that talent to the world,” he said.

Jammeh urged members of the football community to support his candidacy, arguing that his experience as both a player and administrator has prepared him for the role.

“I was a footballer and now I am a football administrator. I know the importance of football, and I am aware of the challenges our football is facing. Voting for me is voting for competence and development.”

Jammeh enjoyed a distinguished playing career representing The Gambia before moving into football administration. He is among the candidates seeking to succeed outgoing GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo in the federation’s upcoming elections.
