Gambian singing couple Lamin Touray, known as Badibunka, and his wife Bintou Touray (Binbunka) have reported receiving an anonymous handwritten letter threatening their lives over the romantic content they post on social media.
The letter, reportedly dropped at the couple’s home, accused them of stirring marital tensions in their neighbourhood by publicly displaying affection and promoting “an unrealistic image of married life.” It said: “You are the reason our wives keep bringing us problems and disrespecting us because of your stupid videos. We know the videos are fake. Everything you are showing is not true.”
The note escalated into direct threats, warning the pair to stop their content and claiming knowledge of the wife’s movements. “You think you are the only married couple in The Gambia, making us look like less of a man in front of our wives and families. Be warned and be careful. I know where your wife goes to do her hair, I know your way to the gym, and I know all the places your wife goes. If you don’t stop this nonsense, you call content, I swear you won’t live to make any more content, let alone be on TikTok again.”
Badibunka and Binbunka reported the incident to the Kunkujang Police Station and have called on authorities to investigate.
“My wife and I are in total shocked. This is something we will take lightly,” Badibunka told The Fatu Network. “A threat like this is deeply troubling. This is why I reported it to the police.” The couple said they feared for their safety.
Police have not issued a public statement on the reported threats.
