Four senior secondary schools in the West Coast Region took part in the 2026 ECOWAS General Knowledge Quiz Competition at the Brikama Regional Education Directorate on Wednesday, June 24, as part of efforts to deepen students’ understanding of regional integration and the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The competition featured students from Tujereng Senior Secondary School, Mingdaw Senior Secondary School, St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School, and Sukuta Senior Secondary School. Contestants were tested on their knowledge of ECOWAS, including its objectives, achievements, institutions, and contributions to regional development.
One of the competition’s standout moments came during the closely contested round between St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School and Sukuta Senior Secondary School. Both schools finished with identical scores, resulting in a rare tie that organisers described as a remarkable outcome.
Speaking after the competition, ECOWAS Ambassador Madam Miatta Lily French praised the students for their performance and encouraged them to make lifelong learning a priority.
“I would like to encourage everyone to continue learning and seeking knowledge. In today’s world, information is everywhere, and it is important that we take advantage of the resources available to us,” she said.
French urged students to make full use of books, newspapers, the internet, artificial intelligence tools and search engines to broaden their knowledge and understanding.
“Every day is a learning day, and every minute is an opportunity to learn,” she added, encouraging the students to remain curious, committed and dedicated to achieving excellence.
She expressed confidence in the students’ future and urged them to continue striving for success.
